How to Make Cheeseburger Sliders
This recipe for cheeseburger sliders embodies the classic flavors of a cheeseburger in the form of a slider. The addition of caramelized onions truly elevates this recipe from great to AMAZING! The subtle sweetness from the caramelize onions balances the more cheesy and meaty flavors of the sliders. To make this recipe, you will need the key ingredients shared below.
Key Ingredients
- Hawaiian Sweet Rolls – I used this homemade Homemade Hawaiian Rolls Recipe recipe but store bought rolls will work as well
- Lean Ground Beef
- White Onion
- Colby Jack Cheese Slices – may substitute with American or cheddar cheese slices
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese Blend – blend should include a combo of yellow and white cheddar cheeses
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese, Optional
- Burger Sauce – I used this Homemade Burger Sauce Recipe recipe but any store bought sauce will work
- Unsalted Butter
- Minced Garlic, Optional
- Fresh Parsley
- Salt
- Black Pepper

Preparation
- Prep Oven – preheat oven to 350F. Line a 9×9 square baking pan or large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Make Fillings – in a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add in the onions. Season with salt to taste. Sauté until onions become soft and golden brown, 6-8 minutes or longer as needed. Spoon caramelized onions into a small bowl. Set aside. In the same skillet, add the ground beef. Use a large spoon to break up the beef. Mix in the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to taste. Cook the beef until it is no longer pink. Mix in the cheese just until melted and remove from heat.
- Assemble – evenly slice the rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half into the baking pan or sheet. Spread an even layer of the burger sauce on top. Evenly layer (4) slices of colby jack cheese over the rolls. Spoon over the ground beef filling and top with the caramelized onions. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese over the onions and evenly layer the remaining (4) colby jack cheese slices on top. Spread a layer of burger sauce over the top half of the rolls. Carefully, place on top of the colby jack cheese slices.
- Bake – in a small bowl, mix together the butter, parsley and salt to taste. Generously brush the top of the rolls with about half of the butter mixture. Bake for 12-15 minutes (if using a baking sheet) or 15-20 minutes (if using baking pan). If the cheese is not fully melted, add back into the oven for an additional 5-10 or until cheese is melted to desired consistency.
- Serve – mix in minced garlic into remaining butter mixture and brush over hot slider buns. Serve immediately while still hot.
