How to Make Giant Garlic Knots

This Giant Garlic Knots recipe results in  a soft bread texture with a rich garlic flavor thanks to a hearty brushing of garlic butter! Requiring minimal ingredients, these garlic knots are easy to make and go great serve with your favorite dish, making sandwiches or eaten on its own. To make this recipe, you will need the key ingredients shared below. 

Key Ingredients

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Active Dry Yeast 
  • Water 
  • Avocado or Vegetable Oil
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Salt 
  • Egg
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Minced Garlic 
  • Fresh Parsley 

Preparation

  • Activate Yeast – in the bowl of a stand mixer, add warm water, sugar and yeast. Whisk together to combine. Set aside as the yeast activates, about 8-10 minutes. Yeast mixture is ready to use when it appears bubbly. 
  • Make Dough – add the oil, flour and salt into the bowl with the activated yeast mixture. With the dough hook attached, mix the ingredients together at low speed until a  dough starts to form. Increase mixer speed to medium and knead the dough until it appears smooth and soft to touch, about 5-6 minutes. Transfer dough into a large greased mixing bowl, cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm area to rise for 60-90 minutes or until doubled in sized. 
  • Shape Dough – preheat oven to 350F. Lined a large baking sheet with parchment paper.  Set aside. Deflate the dough and cut into 6 equal pieces. Working with one piece of dough at a time, roll into log shape, about 10 inches long, and shape into a knot. Transfer to baking sheet and repeat with remaining pieces of dough. Lightly cover shaped knots with plastic wrap and set aside for a second rise, about 15-20 minutes. 
  • Bake Knots – in a small dish, whisk together the egg and water. Using a pastry brush, generously apply the egg wash to the knots. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until knots are lightly golden brown and a toothpick inserted into one of the knots comes out clean. 
  • Make Garlic Butter – in a small sauce pan, melt the butter and mix in the minced garlic. Season with salt to taste. Cook while stirring for 1-2minutes. Remove from heat and mix in the parsley. 
  • Serve – using a pastry brush, generously coat the knots in the garlic butter. Serve immediately while still warm or at room temperature, if preferred.

Ingredients

Knots Dough

  • 3 1/4 (423g) cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
  • 1 cup (240ml) warmed water, 100-110F
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) avocado or vegetable oil

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) water

Garlic Butter

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3-4 garlic cloves finely minced
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • salt to taste

Instructions
